## What makes the Polish direction different

Poland is the largest border on this site: nine crossings, against three on the Slovak side and six each on the Hungarian and Romanian ones. But more crossings does not mean more choice here.

Every one of the nine has a coach lane — this is the only direction where a scheduled bus can pass anywhere. Crossing on foot, however, is possible at exactly one place: Shehyni – Medyka. The other eight have no pedestrian lane at all. If you have neither a car nor a bus ticket, you have no real alternative to Shehyni on this border, and that is worth knowing before you set off, because "drive to the nearest crossing" does not work here.

One more thing about Yagodyn – Dorohusk: for that crossing we receive data for buses and trucks only. We do not publish a car waiting time there — you will see a dash instead of a figure. That is not a bug, it is an honest gap: a dash is better than an invented number.

## A typical week: Friday costs the most

Across the last 60 days of observations for exit from Ukraine, the pattern on this border is clear: the heaviest day of the week is Friday. It is the worst day at five of the eight crossings where we count cars — Hrushiv, Rava-Ruska, Uhryniv, Ustyluh and Shehyni. At Krakovets the worst day is Thursday; at Nyzhankovychi and Smilnytsia it is Saturday.

The easiest day is almost always early in the week. Monday is the calmest day at four crossings (Hrushiv, Krakovets, Rava-Ruska, Smilnytsia) and Wednesday at Uhryniv and Ustyluh. Shehyni is the exception: there the quietest day is Sunday.

The gap between a good and a bad day on this border is large, which is exactly why planning the departure pays off:

- Shehyni – Medyka: from 59 minutes on Sunday to 5 hours 18 minutes on Friday
- Krakovets – Korczowa: from 1 hour 23 minutes on Monday to 4 hours 18 minutes on Thursday
- Rava-Ruska – Hrebenne: from 25 minutes on Monday to 2 hours 25 minutes on Friday
- Smilnytsia – Krościenko: from 22 to 58 minutes — the flattest crossing on this border

## The peak is in the afternoon, the trough is at night

The hour of the day matters as much as the day of the week here. Almost every one of the heaviest two-hour windows we recorded falls after midday: Shehyni on Thursday 16:00–18:00 (around 8 hours), Krakovets on Thursday 16:00–18:00, Ustyluh on Friday 15:00–17:00, Hrushiv and Rava-Ruska on Friday 13:00–15:00.

Two crossings break that rhythm: Uhryniv peaks in the morning, on Friday 09:00–11:00, and Nyzhankovychi on Saturday 09:00–11:00.

The calmest windows, by contrast, are reliably nocturnal. Between 02:00 and 06:00 at Hrushiv, Krakovets, Rava-Ruska and Shehyni the queue falls to its floor — that is, to the processing time itself, with no standing.

## Why the same queue of cars produces different waits

We do not estimate the wait by eyeballing the length of the line. Every crossing has its own calibration: 15 minutes for the crossing procedure itself, plus a fixed number of minutes for each car ahead of you. On the Polish border that per-car figure varies — 4 minutes at Krakovets and Ustyluh, 10 minutes at Nyzhankovychi, 6 minutes everywhere else.

So two queues of identical length at two different crossings mean two different waits, and crossings have to be compared by time rather than by car count. That is precisely why this site publishes time and nothing else.

## What you will not find here

We do not publish truck queues on this border. Trucks are handled by eCherha, Ukraine's official electronic queue, and putting a second, parallel number next to it would only confuse drivers. We also do not report the Polish side separately: our figures describe the Ukrainian side and the crossing procedure itself, and delays on the neighbouring side are not included in them.
