## What kind of crossing this is

Zakarpattia, near Vynohradiv, a few steps from the border itself; the Hungarian side is Nodyhodosh. This is one of the smallest posts on the Hungarian direction: there are few lanes, processing runs slower than at the large crossings, and only cars and pedestrians are handled.

On our observations Velyka Palad is one of the quietest crossings we measure anywhere. For most of the week there is essentially no queue, and the only noticeable surge comes on Saturday afternoon. But that calm is deceptive in one specific way: low throughput means even a couple of dozen cars — a number that would disperse unnoticed at Luzhanka — turns into a real wait here.

Hence the rule for choosing it. Velyka Palad wins when the queue is short or absent, in which case you simply save road distance and pass through with barely a stop. As soon as a queue forms, the advantage disappears faster than you would expect, and it becomes wiser to fall back on Luzhanka, which despite its heavier flow clears it considerably faster. For residents of the Vynohradiv area this is above all a crossing for short local trips, not for a long haul into Hungary.

This crossing handles: Cars, On foot.

You can cross here on foot — 5 of the 6 crossings on this border allow it.

There is no separate coach lane here.

Right now it ranks 4 of the 6 crossings on this border that report data: 35 min outbound against 33 min at the fastest one (Vilok – Tisabec).

Our calibration allows 10 minutes per car here. Across all crossings that constant runs from 4 to 10 minutes, and 0 of them are slower than this one.

Hence the formula for this crossing: 15 minutes for the crossing itself plus 10 minutes for every car ahead of you. Document checks, customs inspection and delays on the neighbouring side are not in that number — we count the queue only.
