Three crossings, each with its own job
Slovakia is the shortest border on this site: three crossings in total. There is barely a choice to make here, but each of the three does a different job, and they should not be confused with one another.
Uzhhorod – Vyšné Nemecké is the main one and the only full-service crossing: cars, buses, pedestrians. It is also the only crossing on this border with a coach lane, so every scheduled bus to Slovakia goes through it.
Malyi Bereznii – Ubľa handles cars and pedestrians, but no buses. It is the fallback for traffic coming from Perechyn and Velykyi Bereznyi.
Mali Selmentsi – Veľké Slemence is the exception on the entire site: a crossing for pedestrians and cyclists only. There is no point driving there — cars are not admitted at all. We keep the page precisely because turning up there by car is an expensive mistake.
This is also the only direction where every single crossing can be made on foot. For comparison, on the Polish border only one crossing out of nine has a pedestrian lane.
A typical week: the weekend peaks here, not Friday
The Slovak border runs on a different rhythm from the Polish one. Where Poland's heaviest day is Friday, here Saturday is the worst day at both car crossings, and the single heaviest windows fall on Sunday:
- Uzhhorod – Vyšné Nemecké: calmest on Thursday, heaviest on Saturday; a typical week stays between 55 minutes and 2 hours 5 minutes, and the worst window we recorded is Sunday 11:00–13:00, around 3 hours
- Malyi Bereznii – Ubľa: calmest on Tuesday, heaviest on Saturday; from 35 minutes to 1 hour 34 minutes, with the worst window on Sunday 13:00–15:00, also around 3 hours
The peak here is neither morning nor evening but the middle of the day, roughly 11:00 to 15:00 at weekends. The quietest windows sit at the opposite end: early Wednesday morning at Uzhhorod, Tuesday evening at Malyi Bereznii.
That distribution has a simple reading: this border is used mostly for short weekend trips, not for transit or commuting.
We have no week data for Mali Selmentsi, and we say so
We do not show a typical week for Mali Selmentsi. The reason is straightforward: there is no car counter there, and the history we have accumulated is not yet enough to compute medians by day of week. We could fill the gap with generalities, but we think it is more honest to state it plainly: for this crossing we do not have weekly statistics yet.
How to read these figures
We compute the wait from our own calibration: 15 minutes for the crossing procedure itself, plus a fixed number of minutes for every car ahead of you — 6 minutes at both car crossings on this border. The figure excludes document checks, customs inspection and any delay on the Slovak side; we count the queue and nothing else.
