Zakarpattia; Chop sits at the junction of Ukraine, Hungary and Slovakia, with Záhony on the Hungarian side. The road crossing here handles cars, coaches and lorries, but pedestrians are not processed. This is the main gateway on the Hungarian direction for anyone heading to Nyíregyháza and Budapest.

Chop is one of the few crossings with substantial night and pre-dawn movement. The heaviest hours fall in the early morning of Saturday — around six, when other posts are still nearly empty — and again in the middle of Sunday. The reason is that people using Chop are mostly travelling long distances, and for a long drive it makes sense to start before daylight. So the familiar advice to "leave as early as possible" works less well here than elsewhere: early in the morning you will arrive together with everyone else.

The calmest windows at Chop are, conversely, weekday evenings and the second half of Friday. If your schedule allows, departing in those hours gains more than any detour: the nearest alternatives, Luzhanka and Slovak Uzhhorod, sit in roughly the same load range, and switching crossings rarely brings a meaningful advantage.
